At the start of 2008, what is the world political situation?
What are the prospects for U.S. imperialism as it struggles to maintain its preeminent position among the dominant powers? Will its continuing struggles in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan enable it to maintain control over the Middle East and in general over the world?
What nations are contending with the U.S. for a dominant position in the world? What are their interests and strategies?
What nations are struggling for independent development and popular democracy against the imperial order? What are the points of contention?
What contradictions exist in the U.S. domestic situation and how do they affect the U.S. impact on the world? How are these reflected in the current U.S. presidential campaign?
How can the "other superpower" assert the will of the world's people against the reign of capital?
In this space I will explore a range of opinions on these topics.
